BARFI- As sweet as its name….

…..For all those who consider movies as an entertainment and a reason for smiling, Barfi is the one you gotta catch. Right from the beginning when the melodious sound of the  song picture shuru fill in your ears till the end , the move never fails to make you laugh. It is a display of  a sweet romance between a mute Ranbir Kapoor(Barfi) and an Autistic Priyanka Chopra(Jhilmill). Both the protagonist have done more than justice to their roles.

The story is heart touching without too much drama. The movie is a joyous ride with its perfectly timed comic acts. The beauty of the cliched scenes  sliding doors, the butt pinching, the mindless chases are all enhanced by the soft and the melodious background score.   A few  sequences in the movie like Ranbir’s effort to make an autistic Priyanka smile with a  a flame shining in the middle of a bubble or the clever manner in which he proposes friendship to Iliana D Crouse by turning the clock 15 minutes behind  are magical.

The strong message which the movie sends across in a very simplistic way and without emphasizing to do so is that whatever  situations life throws at you, if you can smile  at all of them and be happy- the world is a beautiful place to live in.  Barfi with his happy go lucky nature makes a place for himself in the hearts of all those he comes across including the persistent cop. He never gets his disability in the way he lives his life and expresses himself. Never once  does he ask for sympathy. His unusual way of testing his friends brings out the originality of the character. His way of appreciation wide a wide smile and a sweet gesture by his fingers or showing anger with an arm raised in a slapping action speak  by themselves leaving no need for spoken words.

Jhilmill-an autistic girl finds her true beloved in Barfi. Without even knowing and understanding the true meaning of the term love she loves him unconditionally. circumstances bring them together and then she holds his tiny finger to fall of to sleep every single night of their lives till they die together on one bed. Their playful acts with the mirror and Barfi tossing his shoe in the air as a sign of calling Jhilmill are remarkable.  the sparkle in her eyes on seeing the traditional Kolkatta based dance forms filled with colour are a sign of how well PC has got into the character .

Though based around serious issues of physical disability, parents leaving their autistic child who is later kidnapped and almost killed for money, barfi with its amazingly soothing and melodious music, traditional acts of comedy made to look absolutely beautiful,  purity and genuineness of friendship, a completely unique and emotional love story is a must watch…..
